Specially designed motorcycles may soon help save lives in Miami, Florida. Under a proposed program, firefighters could respond to emergencies on the motorcycles, navigating gridlocked traffic to reach victims before other emergency vehicles arrive. All Miami-Dade County firefighters are trained as emergency medical technicians.

The BMW company has offered to donate ten emergency rescue motorcycles equipped with defibrillators, oxygen tanks, and first-aid kits. Firefighters would ride in pairs. If approved by the Miami-Dade County Commission, the bikes could be on the road by next fall.
