American Foundation for Preventive Medicine
The American Foundation for Preventive Medicine (AFPM),
a nonprofit educational corporation, was granted a 501 (c) (3) status
in 1987. The mission of the foundation is to administer and operate,
educational, scientific, and medical programs that include the following:
- Publish/distribute medical/fitness information to health profession
and lay public
- Support research and educational outreach program in medicine
and nutrition
- Disseminate research results to general public
- Promote and support other activities/programs that will enhance
the physical and emotional well-being of general public
Foundation projects include promoting health awareness
campaigns to alert all women of childbearing age of the need for
folate, a B vitamin, to reduce the incidence of neural tube defects;
the use of lysine to help reduce/lessen outbreak of herpes; promotion
of folic acid and B12 to help reduce homocysteine levels and reduce
risk of cardiovascular disease among many others.
The American Foundation for Preventive Medicine¹s
most recent project is the Neighborhood Heart Watch initiative.
