No bones about it

1. Although bones may seem lifeless, hard, and rigid, they are actually alive and growing.

2. When you were born, you had 300 bones. But as you get older, the number will drop to 206 because many bones fuse, or grow together.

3. The strongest bone in your body is the mandible (MAN-deh-buhl), or lower jawbone.

4. Bones need plenty of calcium to grow strong and healthy. Calcium can be found in dairy products and dark green, leafy vegetables.

5. Each foot contains 26 bones. In your lifetime, you are likely to walk a total of 115,000 miles!

6. The smallest bone in your body is the stirrup bone, located in your ear. It is only 1/8 of an inch long!

7. Your “funny bone” is not a bone at all, but a nerve. The ulnar nerve is very close to the surface of the elbow. Striking it causes a sharp pain.

8. Dangerous poisons are often labeled with a skull and crossbones. When you see this symbol on something, DO NOT TOUCH!
