It’s Easter egg time again! It’s time to dye the eggs and hide them. Best of all, it’s time to hunt for them! Follow the directions below to make surprise eggs with wild designs or striped and checked eggs.
Hint: Make your dye twice as strong as the package directions tell you. The colors will be brighter!
EGG-CENTRIC EGGS
Materials:
• 1 piece of thin cotton cloth (6 inches square) for each egg
• Eyedropper
• Three colors of dye
• Hard-boiled white eggs
• Rubber bands
Directions:
1. Wrap an egg in a piece of the cotton cloth.
2. Tightly secure both ends of the cloth with rubber bands.
3. Squeeze drops of one color of dye onto the cloth-wrapped egg. Rinse out the eyedropper, and squeeze drops of the second color of dye onto the egg. Repeat with the third color.
4. Set the egg aside to dry before removing cloth.
STRIPED EGGS
Materials:
• Hard-boiled white eggs
• Rubber bands, all different widths, or masking tape
• Two colors of dye
Directions:
1. Prepare two colors of dye.
2. Dip an egg into the lighter-colored dye. Set it aside to dry.
3. When it is dry, securely place the rubber bands or masking tape on the egg where you want stripes.
4. Dip the egg into the second color of dye.
5. Allow the egg to dry before removing the rubber bands or tape.
CHECKED EGGS
Directions:
1. Follow steps 1 and 2 for Striped Eggs.
2. Place the rubber bands or tape lengthwise and crosswise on the egg.
3. Dip the egg into the second color of dye. Let the egg dry before removing the rubber bands.
